CAREFULLY CRAFTED CLASSICAL REWORKS FOR CURIOUS CATS EVERYWHERE...
'Connections Drawn' takes well-known themes from composers across five centuries and nudges them into beautiful and more-ish new shapes, colours and flavours. A couple of original pieces are also slipped into this eclectic and intriguing collection.
These artfully constructed arrangements nod toward contemporary composers such as Max Richter or Philip Glass, with moments of sublime wonder and others of euphoric energy. Familiar melodies get layered and recontextualised: Bach rubs shoulders with Rodgers & Hammerstein, Chopin slips into a slow-motion dreamspace, the anthems of Europe and Ukraine combine in defiant symbolism.
Meanwhile, the central section of the album throws in some proper catnip-infused curveballs, echoing the genre-defying adventures of Penguin Cafe, Vitamin String Quartet or Uri Caine. 'Mattachinism' sets 90s piano-driven house riffs to a renaissance dance melody, 'A Series of Unnecessary Variations...' serves up the finest international cheeseboard imaginable, while 'Arrogant and Offensive.' stages a succinct satirical showstopper.
On 'Connections Drawn', Cherry Mint Koala set out with a one-of-a-kind map to find junctions and stations where musical routes might serendipitously meet.
Enjoy this trip!
